new guy

gidday all..about to take delivery of 2014 Capo..been a long slow process selling previous bike but the dealer has stuck at it. I am hoping that some of you guys could give me a heads up on some of the niggles i am likely to encounter with the new bike and any thing I shouldn't do ...I've been following your forum for a wee while and I think I've got a reasonable idea of what to expect. Any advice appreciated

Magic Bike

G'day Touringbudgie, I've had my 014 Touring since March this year when I couldn't pass up the run-out special and abandoned my looong wait for the Rally 1200. I'm really happy with the thing! I've often wondered why others have had such a troubled time - could it be poor pre-delivery/post sales servicing or just rotten luck (Euro bike lottery)? Anyway I've clocked up 5,500k's and my mechanic recommended 15w50 semi synthetic oil at the 1000k warranty service (change again at 5000, then 10,000 dealer service and maybe full syn 10,000 intervals). Other than fitting a 16 tooth front sprocket to bring the lower gearing into usable range (but keeping higher gearing for highway speeds) I've only been doing the usual self mods - mudflaps, Givi tank bag, sheep skins, headlight protectors.....prob spent too much already! Also, have a look at the other forum (AF1 Site). There are heaps of experience's to consider (and lots of photo's). Cheers bro

Ps The manual is worth a read even though it often says "see your Aprilia dealer". Might be a good idea to buddy up with the head mechanic too - these things are not Jap bikes....they require a bit more than basic skill to fettle without buggering something! Let us know how you go, and be patient - you will be surprised how different they are once you've done the 1000k service and a few more Km's.....they take a while to run in but they just keep getting better!

Welcome aboard..these are great bikes but they need tlc at the hands of an aprilia tech..my other bikes are handled by a great mechanic but he even told me to get the work done at the dealer and they also have the electonic updates when they come in. My capo has been as reluable ax my xz12 and versys..its a goodie..enjoy your bike..jn

Still waiting

Gidday guys, thanks for the replies. Yep I'm still waiting to receive the bike. There have been numerous delays which have really done my head in but a plus is that all recal/factory upgrades have been done so at least when it is finally in my hands there will be a few less things to worry about.
After reading a few posts from around the world I'm a bit concerned that dealer support etc may be a bit ah..erratic..hopefully not too bad though as my patience is pretty much used up at this point.
I have been considering replacing the factory muffler...some seem to think it improves the bike ..others not so much...any thoughts..I don't want to change it just cause it looks better. Cheers

Hi T'budgie, the Arrow 'made for Aprilia' can comes complete with power valve and is listed at $1550 Aus.....it weighs less and looks slimmer than stock. I've not seen or heard one in real life so I'm still undecided on spending the $ - until I know for sure there is a power and sound improvement. The stock exhaust is pretty good - it is quite 'open' and it really needs that EXUP valve to keep things civil in the urban environment. Once out on the open road and above 5000 rpm it howls like it's got no baffles! I like it.....but I am tempted by the Arrow. Cheers Ps I haven't seen any reports on whether or not the non-Exup mufflers improve performance and fuel economy....or if they just make a lotta noise..... Also, my thing runs so well I don't need to bother with buying and fitting and re-mapping the exhaust resonator kit. The Rally comes standard with it and gets good reports from Euro test riders.
