I Ride: CAPONORD 1200 RALLY ARMY GREEN 2015
Bike back from Slocombes. Fault traced to faulty exhaust valve cable. Apparently water had got into fitting and cable broke. Rode it for about 30 miles and efi returned. Continued home and reported fault to dealer. Following day went to start bike efi was on. Manually operated the valve blips of throttle and efi went out and three days later still no light. Am really no further forward still rides and sounds fine so will continue to use until fault reappears. Otherwise still massively happy. Not letting minor issue spoil the fun!

I had the same issue happening with my travel pack. First appeared last summer after riding very aggressively in northern Georgia usa. They put the bike on the diagnostics down there and it said the exhaust valve limits were out of spec. When you turn on the key before starting the engine you can hear the valve finding it's limits - if everything is good it will whirr back and forth a couple times very smoothly. If it's lost it's limits it tends to shudder and click a lot more. Then once you up the throttle under power you get the light on. I had my local shop re-set the limits, and this cured it until last week when I was down in North Carolina/Georgia again, and same thing. It seems to appear after quite a lot of aggressive riding - this is when the exhaust valve will be opening and closing a lot - during normal, more subdued riding it's probably not using the valve so it doesn't trigger the issue. Even though this light comes on I don't notice any difference in performance at all - bike still runs just as great as always. I have 25,000 km on now.

Back to Slocombes as light re appeared. This time it would appear to be connected but different. The servo providing the action for the exhaust cables was having a fit, constantly operating and the exhaust valve fluttering. The replacement of the servo has corrected that fault and combination of slow and fast roads home has not brought the light back on.....thankfully. Clearly this exhaust valve and the operating mechanism is sensitive and the warning efi displayed. Fingers crossed not to return!

They probably uploaded the latest software which I gather has some trickery to stop the EFI light coming on when the exhaust valve plays up. I called it hidden rather than cured.

EFI warning and red light

Aprilia Caponord 1200, Travel Pack, 2014 model. Have read this thread with interest and have the same issue. With standard exhaust, red light and EFI warning light came on, while riding back to UK in Switzerland. Bike performed normally. On return, dealer diagnosed sticking exhaust valve. Job done. Have since had a GPR silencer fitted; dealer fitted and upgraded to latest software map, then verified with the new silencer. With this unit, the exhaust valve cables are removed. Bike tested out OK by dealer.

Have just returned from a trip to Switzerland. EFI warning and red light on for most of the trip. Bike performed admirably, without any performance degradation. I have not used the E10 fuel, preferring to stay with standard RON95 unleaded. With a cool engine, the warnings go out, after reaching operating temperature (typically 10-30 minutes) EFI and red light come on.

Given no exhaust cables or exhaust valve is currently in place now, it will be interesting to hear of the diagnosis, presumably: either the servo unit is faulty or the ECU is still in need of further updates. GPR UK distributor, GPR Italy and the Aprilia dealership have been very supportive throughout.

Probably to late to tell you that the exhaust cables can only be set to the correct position with Aprilia's PADS software.......so don't fiddle with them - get them reset or replaced by your Aprilia Technician.

Cheers.....(only spotted your post today......most info is on the 2014-2016 forum).

Hi dclark, I have read where other owners have plugged the Heatech emulator (?) in when they have disconnected their ExUp valves......maybe some will post some info, but you should look in the 2014-2016 forum as that is where they will be hanging out.

Cheers

Hi guys just shortly to confirm that a year later (had the first issue in August 2015) still same EFI warning frustrating light came on again.
I'm not sure if last year intervention was just related to resetting ECU but it seems like now the bike is running even better. Exhaust valve was replaced.
Part was changed under warranty even if it had expired in May 2016.
Engine is smoother and seemingly even lighter on fuel.

Enjoy your ride!✌️

G'day all, weird to have an EFI light giving so much trouble. I've never seen mine come on on my 2014 TP - but I did just have my Ex-Up cables replaced as my Exvalve had been tapping for a few 000kms (at cold start).

The oem cables had done 34,000kms and had no adjustment left in them so the dealer fitted the latest cables (more adjustment available). They were a bit longer, so I had to be clever and re-engineer a neat no-stress tidy looking route for the lower cable to fit snugly with no tight bends.

All done, an the very slight throttle flutter that had crept back in in recent rides has gone away.......

I hope your technicians find what's not right with your Capo's and resolve the issue so you can get on with enjoying the bike (without nagging warning lamps!)..
