Running In mode???

Test rode the Caponord today, after testing the Multistrada 2 weeks ago. The Capo felt very balanced, with good fuelling, and seemed to handle well enough - not that 30 minutes is enough to fully judge. But I found out when I returned to dealer that is was still in RUNNING IN mode. I've agreed with the dealer to have another road test when it's run-in, but what are the Running-in mode settings? How many miles to run-in?

Trying to get an idea of what to expect!

Also found the dashboard difficult to navigate - couldn't change riding modes - nor could the dealer!

Running in mode is activated until the first service as far as I'm aware. When MCN tested it in a group the bike they were given was in this mode. Not sure but I think it restricts to 100BHP like rain mode. I got mine at 1200 odd miles and have had no issues with changing modes since - sounds like the dealer needs some training! Personally I think it's a great bike - come most recently from a gixxer 750 and although very very different I wouldn't go back. Happy riding.

You mean the dealers can do restriction on the bikes?~ That's the first time i heard that dealers plays a part in the running in mode. usually its the rider's responsibility to control his inner beast from running awild. LOL

Anyway, you mind sharing hows the fuel range like so far for the caponord? I've surveyed the fuelly.com and notice there's a huge difference in their fuel reports from different riders. Might be due to the riding style is it?

My dealer told me that the bike wasn't restricted at all. Would I trust them? No!

The running in mode is set for the first 600 miles and when the bike gets it's first service it is remapped to full power. I suppose it's a good thing really but I can't wait to get mine done. I have 450 miles up and it's getting serviced on 01.05.14 the day before I'm off on a long trip with my mates. The dealer (Wheels at Peterborough) told me that any new maps would also be downloaded on the service. I'm loving the bike so far and can't wait to take it a proper distance

Cheers Heinz - ignore this thread.....it's BS

The bike was so new way back in 2013, nobody knew anything! There is no "running in mode" all Caponord's are supposed to have full power from new (except for French market versions) - the originator may have mean't his test bike was in 'R' (rain) mode and the dealer didn't bother to read up on how to simply change to 'T' or 'S' mode (not hard to do...).

Best to get that warranty service done asap and I recommend you convince the Aprilia service guys to use semi syn 15w50 (and you can change it at 3000m) so you can get that motor to run in better and seal up properly. Don't be alarmed at how black the oil goes shortly after the service as this just proves how "un-run in" the motor is until you can flog some of the newness out of the beast..

Regards from Aus

G'day Heinz.......a quick update......just so I haven't mislead you......some Caponords were supplied with the Restricted Map designed for the French market where all bikes can only produce 100hp or 74Kw.

It seems there are a few forum members who got caught with one of these models, but I was correct in stating that there never was a 'running in' map.......

Anyway, if your Capo has the piss-poor 74kw map, the dealer can simply download the current proper map so you will have all 125hp at he crankshaft or around 105hp at the rear wheel after the warranty service at 620miles.....enjoy!

Maybe some UK dealers were getting stock from French dealers who couldn't sell the restricted versions.......or maybe Aprilia just got mixed up with deliveries.....

Cheers Most Capo owners call the 'R' - rain mode - 'Reverse' as it is so slow and uninspiring.....

just to add further controversy to this one.
Just had my bike's 6000 service, part of which was putting it on the aprilia computer??

It has come out a different animal. plenty more power in low mid and top end.
The dealer has no knowledge of what the aprilia download did/might have done.
But, both a friend who has ridden the bike before and I think it has another 20 horses running through it. Our thoughts are an ECU re-map.
