Pannier Lock Adjustment & Safety Wire Mod

G'day Capo Tourer's, was reading a renewed thread (on the other forum site...) about panniers falling off, and decided to double check mine. One was difficult to lock on without giving a good shove and a push-pull check. Anyway, there's good detail and photo's on that topic - worth a read (AF1 forum site). I also noticed that the safety lock wires don't work because they allow too much rearward movement before catching the hook. So I rotated the hook plate 180deg ie no hook, and it works better as it does not allow enough rearward slip for the panniers to disengage. Takes a minute to loosen the tek screws and rotate and retighten...... The locking adjustment bar takes a bit longer but can be adjusted by loosening the 10mm hex under the lock pin/footpeg bracket with the pannier locked in place. It can be moved and tightened so that the pannier is just snug and easily locks/unlocks without any muscle! Please read the other site for more details. Note to the wary...when unclipping the lock wire, be sure to push it sideways so it clears the plastic lugs....I learn't this the hard way and my wires are a tad loose rather than snap tight....bugger!

After my long trip have stored my panniers..ordered top box set up and will take extra ventura bag on passenger seat for longer trips..vertigal integration instead of horizontal . Also the panniers dont hold much either...jn

G'day Ratty, Have to admit, no keyless top hatch is a nuisance, but other than that they are nice and slim fitting and (news flash...I saw another Capo 12 on the road last Sunday) look great. Mine hold plenty of gear for me, with heaps of room for extra stuff in the lid space.

Top loading is not new to me either, but as it's one tall motorcycle, be sure not to loose your footing pushing it around with a huge load on the back.....done that too .....err, not with Capo12.

There is merit in putting the boxes away, as they cost $700ea! My Givi 40L keyless were a mere $400ea by comparison.....but really wiiiide.

Lost a pannier a couple of weeks ago. Thought it was secure, but obviously not.
